Dr. Irina Aron
Dr. Irina Chongarova-Aron is an Intercultural Communication consultant, facilitator and psychotherapist working with individuals, couples and organisations internationally. She is a member of SIETAR (The Society for Intercultural Education, Training and Research) and a Registered Member of the BACP (British Association of Counsellors
and Psychotherapists).
Irina comes from a mixed cultural heritage (Russian-Jewish/Bulgarian) and during her more than 20 years academic career as an Associate Professor in Intercultural Communication and Russian Cultural Studies at the University of Plovdiv, Bulgaria, she was engaged in teaching courses and research in bilingualism and biculturalism.
In 2008 Irina relocated to London and specialised in Migration Studies at the University of Roehampton, working on research projects related to the psycho-social aspects of international migration. Becoming engaged with the global nomads of London, she recognised the therapeutic effect of communication and pursued training as a psychodynamic psychotherapist at the Tavistock Centre and the Anna Freud Institute.
Irina worked in the NHS (the UK National Health Service) for 5 years and began her multilingual psychotherapy practice in private clinics in London and Zurich. She became interested in the prevention of mental health problems and trained with the HearthMath institute in breath techniques and the application of biofeedback technology for monitoring and training emotional self-regulation and resilience.
As both an academic and a clinician, Irina is deeply involved in experiential learning and personal development focusing on human communication and connection as determinants for mental health, emotional wellbeing, and personal growth.
